Greg Zane has had a career in the performing arts as a dancer, actor, director, choreographer, and teacher. His directorial and choreographic credits include productions at regional theaters and international theatre companies. In 2014, Greg started a relationship with Lincoln Center Theater’s Broadway revival of The King and I as Associate Choreographer to Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli and director Bartlett Sher. He continues to have a presence in various incarnations of the production: the US National Tours, London Palladium production, Tokyo Theatre Orb production, UK Tour and the current International Tour as the Associate Choreographer.

Greg's other direction/ choreography credits include: Carousel, Annie, Peter Pan, Seussical,The Sound of Music, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Flower Drum Song, Singin’ In The Rain, and Elf: The Musical. He has also danced professionally with the Alberta Ballet, Los Angeles Chamber Ballet, and Hawaii Ballet Theatre as a principal dancer. As a concert dancer, his repertoire ranged from the 19th Century classical roles to contemporary pieces. He has also danced on Broadway in the 1996 revival of The King and I.

While guest teaching at various dance academies across the US, Greg has taught ballet at various NYC dance studios, and is currently a company ballet class teacher for the famous Paul Taylor Dance Company. He has worked with renowned teachers: Diana Cartier (ABT), David Howard, Peter Schabel, Alaine Haubert (ABT), Eve Walstrum (Netherlands Dance Theatre), Tom Pazik (Atlanta School of Ballet), Danilo Radojovic (ABT), Laurence Blake, and Victoria Koenig.
 

Greg’s approach to teaching has been informed by their teaching methods to stress body alignment, kinetic movement, musicality, and placement in order to develop artistry. His students have included pre-professionals as well as professional dancers from companies such as ABT, Boston Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Royal Swedish Ballet, Ballet Hispanico, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Complexions, Paul Taylor Dance Company and Broadway professionals. He has also guest taught in Rosie O'Donnell's arts education organization in New York City public schools: Rosie's Broadway Kids.

Class Descriptions

Building on the principles and fundamentals of Absolute Beginner and Basic levels, Beginner Ballet looks to add greater understanding of ballet technique. Body alignment, building strength, a kinesthetic approach to movement and musicality are emphasized. Whether you are interested in reviewing the fundamentals or looking to improve your ballet vocabulary of steps, this class is an in-depth look into the process of ballet and science of movement.

Progressing from the principals of the Beginner Ballet level, this more advanced class strives to work on clarity of positions and precision in movement. This class is a further look into refining the details of technique through alignment, direction of energy and focus. While introducing more advanced turning and jumping steps, there is also a focus on transitional linking steps and in creating seamless phrases of movement.

This class has been designed for the dancer who wants to start off their day on “the right foot!” Whether you are a dancer warming up for an audition or rehearsal or just want to start your day, this class incorporates a traditional ballet barre and center work to help you achieve your goals. This fast paced class will get your body and mind in tuned for the day ahead. Level: AdvBeg and up.
