Class Descriptions

Contemporary

Weston’s Contemporary class derives from classic Jazz, Modern, and Theater to create a contemporary technique that has a fresh and inspired style. Influences range from Fosse to Forsythe, having worked with Ann Reinking, Helen Pickett, Christopher Wheeldon, and Amy Seiwert to name a few choreographers. Musicality is an essential element to Weston’s class and it brings out an athletic and dynamic movement vocabulary calling on every aspect of the artist’s performance. He creates a positive and energetic atmosphere that allows dancers to take chances and push their artistic and physical prowess beyond their comfort zone.

Jazz

Weston’s Jazz class begins with a pre-sweat dance to get our bodies moving freely and joyfully. After warm-up, he leads a technical stretch and strengthening sequence in center to get the body prepared for the next half of class, which could be an across the floor combination or just straight to a center combo. Jazz is famous for seamless transitions and Weston breaks them down giving his students a clear understanding of rhythm, style, and musicality. With current to timeless musical selections, it will be easy to find your escape in Weston’s Jazz.

Theater

Weston’s Theater classes reflect today’s current demand for the technical and well-rounded performer. After a thorough conditioning focused warm-up, he will lead artists through a combination that will be as musical as it is expressive. Finding a story-line that is personal and authentic to each individual in the class is always the underlying goal. Intention and dynamic are keys to a memorable performance, and Weston allows his students to explore these avenues with freedom and guided encouragement.
