Katie Drablos is a Dallas, TX native who after graduating from SMU with a BFA in Dance Performance, moved to the Big Apple in 2009. Her first job was as a Radio City Rockette and she has kept dancing, teaching and choreographing her way through the city ever since. She worked as Al Blackstone's Associate Choreographer on productions of Oklahoma, Hairspray, Pippin, and The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes. She also performed in his original works in NYC; Happy We'll Be and Freddie Falls in Love, both at the Signature Theatre & The Joyce Theater. She’s danced in many NYC events such as DanceBreak and Gypsy of The Year and has extensive acting training from T. Schreiber Studios. She now focuses on her own choreography and direction, with storytelling always as an integral element.
A cancer survivor with a heart for creation, she showcased her directorial and choreographic prowess in three, self-produced full-length dance narrative shows at Arts On Site in the East Village. They were vehicles to fundraise for oral, head, and neck cancer patients. To be alive and to turn the pain into art is Katie’s way forward, despite cancer. Some other choreography highlights include setting original works for all 4 seasons of the dance company, Woman in Motion, at the Ailey Theater, pieces at Princeton University, Sacred Heart University & Southern Methodist University, a Sinatra Bossa Nova style number for The Sarafinas in NYC, and Matilda Jr. for Joffrey Musical Theater program.
Katie is a passionate dance educator teaching young people and adults across the country, internationally, and weekly in NYC. She specializes in theater jazz and contemporary styles. She has worked in Mexico City, Prague, Sao Paulo, and at House of Jazz and The Manor in London. She collaborates regularly with live musicians in classes and curates shows in New York with artists of all mediums.

Katie teaches theater jazz classes where musicality and intention are at the forefront. The movement always arises out of the music, lyrics, and story. She creates rooms where freedom and imperfection are embraced. Katie wants everyone who enters to feel safe to take risks, embody different characters, and have fun while doing it. She likes to get to know people by name. Her warm-up and combinations will challenge students but also be adaptable to modification as needed.
