Jon Rua has originated roles in four tony-nominated Broadway shows, the award-winning musical Hamilton, SpongeBob SquarePants, Hands on a Hardbody, and In The Heights. Jon Rua has originated roles in four tony-nominated Broadway shows, the award-winning musical Hamilton, SpongeBob SquarePants, Hands on a Hardbody, and In The Heights. On screen, Rua has guest-starred on Blacklist, Blue Bloods, Law and Order, and the films Smile 2, Fall to Rise, and First Reformed.

An award-winning creative director/choreographer, he recently set a world premiere for Giordano Dance Chicago, opened the Broadway shows Floyd Collins (dance sequences) and Boop (associate choreographer); helmed Phish’s Send in the Clones at MSG, the world-premier of 3 Summers of Lincoln and the Hunter S. Thompson musical, co-choreographed production numbers for Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, The Cher Show, Spongebob Musical Live on nick, rom-com Isn’t It Romantic. Regional productions include Macbeth and Rent (osf), West Side Story (Milrep), Godspell (PCLO), The Hombres (Two River), Jesus Christ Superstar and Aida (Muny). Plus music videos & commercials for Coheed & Cambria Old Flames, Lawrence More, Cox Mobile, New York Lotto, etc.

Class Descriptions

Jon's movement ranges through various styles, embracing above all, momentum. The quality of movement is highly influenced by funk styles, hiphop fundamentals, theater, storytelling, contemporary, and more. Within the class you will have a lengthy warm up exploring the styles above, followed by the instruction of the combination. The class is an experience, one where you leave with a heightened awareness and commitment to the energy and love that informs your dance. You will generate more knowledge on your dance facility and gain perspective on where the Choreography is coming from.
