Chalvar Monteiro, a native of New Jersey, began his formal dance training at Sharron Miller's Academy for the Performing Arts, and went on to study at The Ailey School under the direction of Denise Jefferson. Earning a degree in dance from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance.

Mr. Monteiro joined Abraham.In.Motion in June 2010 and assisted Kyle Abraham in setting work on the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, as well as at Emory University and Barnard College.
Prior to joining A/I/M, Monteiro was a member of Sidra Bell Dance New York, The Kevin Wynn Collection, and Elisa Monte Dance. He has also performed works by Judith Jamison, Thaddeus Davis, Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham, George Balanchine, Doug Varone, and Helen Pickett.

Classes emphasize four specific core values: exploration, musicality, abandonment, and intuition. The opening warm-up sequence focuses on the fluidity of the spine, articulation, and core body strengthening and then builds up to challenging, creative and invigorating phrase work. Students experience a personalized post-modern movement vocabulary full of intricate gestures and fearless floor work.
