Yuka Kawazu was born in Kanagawa, Japan. She has performed throughout the United States and Japan as corps, soloist and principal dancer with many distinguished ballet and theater companies.

Yuka Kawazu was born in Kanagawa, Japan. She has performed throughout the United States and Japan as corps, soloist and principal dancer with many distinguished ballet and theater companies.

In the past, Yuka has served as ballet mistress for the Staten Island Ballet Company, among others, and teaches yearly at the New Jersey Dance Theater Project. Yuka is a regular faculty member at several New York City studios, including Ballet Arts, Dance Molinari and Broadway Dance Center. She was also a faculty member of New Dance Group and the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center. She has choreographed performances at several theaters including the Alvin Ailey Theater, the Duplex and the Triad Theaters and for several dance companies.

Most recently, Yuka formed Danse En l’Air, a vibrant new ballet company that was selected for funding by New York City Live Arts, an internationally recognized forum for innovative dance and visionary artistry. As Artistic Director of Danse En L’Air, Yuka choreographed an entirely original evening-length concert, Planets, which featured pieces that drew from traditional ballet repertoire as well as more experimental styles of dance. Yuka is a certified Pilates instructor in New York, and a guest professor and choreographer at the Showa Music Academia in Japan. Read more about Yuka’s teaching schedules at www.YukaBallet.com.

Class Descriptions

This class emphasizes placement, proper classical technique, rhythm and attention to musicality. Students are taught how to improve their instrument through proper barre placement. They are also taught how to move with a strong sense of dynamics. By understanding muscles and placement of their bodies, students refine their technique and learn the subtleties that improve turns, placement, and line.
