Weston Krukow, a University of Arizona School of Dance alumni, has danced with Amy Seiwert’s Imagery, Smuin Ballet, and for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Weston has most recently taught workshops and master classes across the country while touring with An American in Paris. Television credits include working with Marguerite Derricks on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and he produced, choreographed, and danced in BaseBallet: Into The Game, the documentary film showcasing the athleticism of dance, which was featured on NBC Sports Bay Area, honored in over ten film festivals nationwide, and receiving five Emmy awards. Weston also received first place in the Cabaret Division of the US Open Swing Dance Championship and was honored in the 2015 MacCallum Choreography Festival for a Pas De Deux he created with Nicole Haskins. His professional teaching and choreographing experience include creating several works on Smuin Ballet, and setting Charles Weidman’s On My Mother’s Side on American Midwest Ballet.

Since at a young age, Weston has dealt with chronic back spasms and sciatic episodes. This has led him on a search for answers to finding a way to live and dance without pain. He has since then discovered a personal breakthrough through the power of the mind-body connection and our ability to help ourselves through thoughtful re-purposing of our mental and physical evaluations. His classes are focused on the celebration of movement and the idea that we hold the power to find joy through understanding tension and how to release it.

Class Descriptions

Weston’s Contemporary class derives from classic Jazz, Modern, and Theater to create a contemporary technique that has a fresh and inspired style. Influences range from Fosse to Forsythe, having worked with Ann Reinking, Helen Pickett, Christopher Wheeldon, and Amy Seiwert to name a few choreographers. Musicality is an essential element to Weston’s class and it brings out an athletic and dynamic movement vocabulary calling on every aspect of the artist’s performance. He creates a positive and energetic atmosphere that allows dancers to take chances and push their artistic and physical prowess beyond their comfort zone.

Weston’s Jazz class begins with a pre-sweat dance to get our bodies moving freely and joyfully. After warm-up, he leads a technical stretch and strengthening sequence in center to get the body prepared for the next half of class, which could be an across the floor combination or just straight to a center combo. Jazz is famous for seamless transitions and Weston breaks them down giving his students a clear understanding of rhythm, style, and musicality. With current to timeless musical selections, it will be easy to find your escape in Weston’s Jazz.

Weston’s Theater classes reflect today’s current demand for the technical and well-rounded performer. After a thorough conditioning focused warm-up, he will lead artists through a combination that will be as musical as it is expressive. Finding a story-line that is personal and authentic to each individual in the class is always the underlying goal. Intention and dynamic are keys to a memorable performance, and Weston allows his students to explore these avenues with freedom and guided encouragement.
