Lainie Munro is a performer, choreographer, and teacher. She choreographed Sweet Charity for New Haarlem Arts Theater, which won her the 2012 AUDELCO award for Best Choreography. Her work on Sweet Charity earned her praise from critics and was described in the New York Times as "new, exhilarating choreography".

Lainie Munro is a performer, choreographer, and teacher. She choreographed Sweet Charity for New Haarlem Arts Theater, which won her the 2012 AUDELCO award for Best Choreography. Her work on Sweet Charity earned her praise from critics and was described in the New York Times as "new, exhilarating choreography".

Other choreography credits include an episode of Hope and Faith starring Kelly Ripa, Oklahoma! starring Rue McClanahan for Broadway Series of Charlotte, Das Barbecu for Arvada Center of Denver, Cabaret for Music Theater of Connecticut, and Crazy For You and Legally Blonde for Florida State University Mainstage. She also directed Great Dayfor Library of Congress starring Norm Lewis, Christiane Noll, and Davis Gaines, and choreographed for designer Christian Louboutin and Piper Heidsieck champagne for Fashion's Night Out event in New York City.

As an actor Lainie was in the Cameron Mackintosh/ National Theater of Great Britain production of My Fair Lady, touring 26 cities across the USA, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Regional roles include Velma in Chicago, Phyllis in the European Tour of 42nd Street, Kristine in A Chorus Line, Helene in Sweet Charity, and roles in Saturday Night Fever and Grease for Royal Caribbean Productions. Most recently she played Nancy in Nuclear Follies at the Theater at St. Johns in NYC. 

Lainie is also a frequent guest artist for master classes in musical theater both in the USA and internationally. She has been a guest artist at Alex Martinez School of the Arts in Asuncion, Paraguay; National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art in Christchurch, New Zealand; and McDonald College of Performing Arts in Sydney, Australia. She has taught Broadway Theater Dance for NYU/ CAP 21 Conservatory and is a guest teacher for Theater Dance and Tap at Broadway Dance Center in New York. Lainie holds a B.F.A. in Music Theater from Florida State University. She is a proud member AEA and SDC, the union for Stage Directors and Choreographers.

Class Descriptions

This class is based on the fundamentals of rhythm tap, but primarily focuses on Broadway- style hoofing and musical theater tap. Perfect for dancers needing to brush up tap skills for auditions, or for anyone who loves Broadway and Movie Musical tap. As a pre-requisite, proficiency in Beg Level tap, including timesteps, is recommended.

Learn classic Broadway Theatre Dance movement and styles: ranging form Robbins to Bennett to Fosse: in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment. Perfect for the singer/actor who wants to improve their technique by learning style, acting, and performance skills, or for anyone who just loves musical theatre. Lanie is known for her positive energy and for her ability to teach anyone how to dance, and how to enjoy their dancing. Class focuses on a different musical every week, and it covers technique, vocabulary, style, and performance.as a pre-requisite to this class, basic/beg ballet or jazz, or Absolute Beginner Theatre Dance Workshop is recommended.

This class is the same format as Beg Theater but accelerated to the Adv Beg level. Increased emphasis on technique, style, performance, and musicality. As a pre-requisite to this class, Beg Theater is recommended.

This class is designed for singers and actors who need to brush up their movement/dance skills for auditions. Class will emphasize learning proper technique, terminology, and especially how to pick up combinations quickly and perform them with confidence and style. This class is also ideal for anyone who loves Broadway dancing and wants to learn how to dance at a true beginner level in a fun, positive, and supportive environment.

This class is designed for singers and actors who need to learn tap skills for auditions. It is also ideal for anyone who loves Broadway Tap dancing and has always wanted to learn how to tap - at a true beginner level-  in a fun, positive, and supportive environment. 

Class will emphasize learning proper technique, terminology, and especially how to pick up combinations quickly and perform them with confidence and style. Each class will focus on a different musical.
