Class Descriptions

Katelin’s Theater ABW provides dancers a positive environment to explore and connect with the history, foundation, and technique of theater dance.

Class is structured so students will be educated in the history of the style by progressing chronologically through the decades of movies, music, and culture that have motivated dance in the theater.

In the warm-up, classic dance foundation will be thoroughly broken down and explained to help students learn and retain the terminology and body-awareness of the technique. Class will study the “what, why, and how” a movement is executed in progressions across the floor so students can practice and develop their foundation. Class will end with a center combination, giving students the opportunity to apply what they have learned and confidently explore the ever changing musicality, character, and style of choreography in the theater.

With a loving and focused environment, this class will develop students’ performance, technique, and physical understanding of theater dance, while paying tribute to the foundation and history that created this art form.
