Professional dancer, choreographer, and teacher, Joanna Numata, has worked in all realms of the business for over 18 years. Her extensive training and experience have allowed her to make a mark in the commercial dance world utilizing popular styles from street jazz to hip-hop to tap, jazz, and ballet. Joanna’s talent and professionalism have made her a sought-after dancer in the industry. She has had the privilege of dancing for a variety of artists such as artists as Kanye West, Beyonce, Rihanna, Fergie, Black Eyed Peas, Busta Rhymes, Nelly, Pharrell, Cassie, Diddy, Romeo Santos, and Dirty Money to name a few. She has worked on the feature films, Step Up 3D, I AM LEGEND, The Smurfs, and Friends with Benefits. Partial stage and television credits include the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Fashion Rocks, MTV VMA's, SNL, Law & Order, How to Make it in America, Jimmy Fallon Show, a national commercial for Dr. Scholl’s, Moncler and Desigual for NY Fashion Week, and industrials for MAC Cosmetics, Barney’s, Google, Tommy Hilfiger, L’Oréal, Nike, Bloomingdales, and ABC. Joanna was also featured in an editorial for Nike Women and their #NYMADE campaign.
In addition to her credits as a dancer, Joanna has made a name for herself as a choreographer. She has choreographed national commercials for Kaboom Cleaner, industrials for Redken, and music videos and stage shows for Joey Yung (Hong Kong pop sensation) as well as various other artists, and artists in development.
Joanna continues to travel the globe, teaching dance workshops and sharing her love of movement and musicality with students. She is passionate about working with the next generation and sharing tools and techniques to prepare them for success in the dance industry. She has taught workshops throughout the US, Asia, and Central America. Currently, Joanna is working with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line as a rehearsal director.

Class Descriptions
Joanna Numata offers a class which focuses on musicality and the use of levels and dynamics — along with different qualities of movement. Students work on precision, body awareness and performance. This class will help students prepare for the commercial dance industry by working on skills needed to create a stronger, more versatile dancer. Joanna's style ranges from smooth grooves to energetic hits.
Joanna Numata's ABW class offers those who are new to street jazz the basics of this style of dance. Students will work on movements ranging from smooth grooves to energetic hits, while also learning to be aware of their bodies. Each class will build upon the previous one, allowing students to really work on what they are learning. Most importantly, Joanna likes to create a friendly, supportive and stress free learning environment!
