Jimmy “TapZ” Sutherland is a tap dancer, musician, and rhythm instrument chameleon that was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and learned to tap dance from Cathy DeFrances. At 10 he had the good fortune, given the support of his loving parents, to meet and train with the legendary Henry LeTang and then moved to New York City to pursue dance and theater at 14.

For the last 3 decades, he has been blessed with being able to dance, sing, play, and act with some of the world’s most celebrated performers, musicians, and dancers as well as some of New York City’s most legendary underground musicians and entertainers. His career has brought him to perform for audiences regionally, nationally, and internationally in theatrical productions, concert halls, jazz and rock music venues, and nightclubs. His passion for tap dance has extended beyond the floor to ventures producing theatre and performing arts events and he is committed to the evolution of live art and tap dance.
