Deanna made her Broadway debut as Meg Giry in Phantom of the Opera, performed the lead role in Christopher Wheeldon’s Broadway tour of An American in Paris, was nominated for an Astaire Award for the role of 17-year-old Winnie Foster in Broadway’s Tuck Everlasting, and played Ivy Smith in the pre-Broadway production of On the Town, directed by John Rando and choreographed by Josh Bergasse. She has performed at City Center, the Met Opera, Lincoln Center, the Joyce, and the Kennedy Center.
Deanna grew up at Broadway Dance Center, where her mother was tap instructor Judy Bassing's teaching assistant. In addition to BDC, Deanna trained at the School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. She performed in New York City Ballet's The Nutcracker and then joined Kansas City Ballet, dancing notable roles including Drew Drop in The Nutcracker, The Cowgirl in Agnes de Mille's Rodeo, the lead in Val Caniparoli’s Lambarena, as well other principal and soloist roles in works by Twyla Tharp, Donald McKayle, Lynne Taylor-Corbet, Karole Armitage, and Paul Taylor.
Deanna has taught all styles of dance since she was fourteen and truly has a passion for it. She teaches ballet, tap, and theatre, and her well-rounded training gives her the ability to understand students from all backgrounds. She is married to fellow BDC instructor Derek Roland.

Deanna's classes focus on both technique and artistry. Proper placement and precise execution of steps are emphasized, as well as the freedom to enjoy the artistry of dance. Deanna creates a safe and welcoming environment for students of all paths, whether they are brushing up on the basics, maintaining their technique, or pursuing ballet as an artistic outlet.
Deanna’s tap class focuses on technique and efficiency. The basic class is perfect for those without much tap experience or those who want to review vocabulary and build better ankle coordination. Like her ballet classes, she creates a warm, comfortable environment and, because of her varied dance background, can easily build the bridge for dancers who are well-versed in other styles of dance.
