Daniel Knechtges’s Broadway credits include Sondheim on Sondheim (directed by James Lapine), Xanadu (directed by Chris Ashley, Tony nomination, Drama Desk nomination), 110 in The Shade (starring Audra McDonald) and The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee (directed by James Lapine.) Dan had the blessedly rare occurrence to have all three shows running simultaneously on the Great White Way in 2007. Dan also choreographed the Off-Broadway incarnation of The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee at Second Stage, which earned him a Lucille Lortel Award nomination.

Other credits include Der Schuh Das Manitu (Berlin, Germany), Vanities (SecondStage Off -Broadway), Give It Up! (Dallas Theatre Center), Girl In The Frame (Goodspeed), Boys From Syracuse (Centerstage Baltimore), Godspell (Papermill Playhouse), Oklahoma!, The Wiz, Cats, My Fair Lady, Chalk Circle, Sound of Music, Joseph (Hangar Theatre), Mame, Angel Street, Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Surflight Theatre), Don Giovanni (Indianapolis Opera), Carousel, The Merry Widow, and West Side Story (Opera Illinois). He also has had the pleasure of working on almost every Gilbert and Sullivan operetta including The Grand Duke, Iolanthe, Ruddigore, The Mikado, Patience, The Gondoliers, H.M.S. Pinafore, and The Sorcerer, all with the Blue Hill Troupe in NYC.

Dan’s choreography can be seen in the Todd Solondz's movie Palindromes and in Fatboy Slim's music video It's a Wonderful Night, which reached #1 in the U.K.  He has also taught dance at numerous institutions and often does master classes all over the country.

Dan hails from Cleveland, OH, and holds a BFA in musical theatre from Otterbein College in Westerville, OH. He is also a member of the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab.

Class Descriptions

Ever go to a dance audition and get frustrated you don't process the information as quickly as others? Are you interested in integrating acting choices into the dance moves that others do? This class is for you! Class will focus on acting choices through technique with a focus on auditioning for musical theatre. Excursuses in class will be geared towards a mock-audition at the end of class with feedback. Emphasis on musicality, changes of emotion in dance, professional presentation of yourself, and use of humor in a dance combination to win over the people behind a table in auditions. Each class will be slightly different so come take all 3 or just 1. Together, we can unlock the best performer inside of you and be able to put your best foot forward in dance auditions.
