Tamara Jones was born and raised in Jamaica, NY and began her dance career at the age of 4. Her longest dance association has been as a member of both Harambee Dance Company and Umoja Dance Company.

Tamara Jones was born and raised in Jamaica, NY and began her dance career at the age of 4. Her longest dance association has been as a member of both Harambee Dance Company and Umoja Dance Company.

Throughout her career, she has performed at notable venues, including Symphony Space, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Summer Stage, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). Her choreography credits include African dance for The Jonah Show (a tribute to hip hop icon and owner of Brickhouse, Kelly Peters) at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theatre. In 2020, she was a featured dancer in the Lagos Pepper Soup music collaboration by Grammy-winning artist Angelique Kidjo and Michael Olatuja.

Additionally, her performance credits include: Film/TV: Dancer in the indie film The Magnificent Cooley T featuring Jackie Long, (2016), praise worshiper in David E. Talbert's Almost Christmas (2016), and appearances on VH1's Black Ink Crew and The Dr. Oz Show.

Class Descriptions

A class for all! Come and enjoy this African dance class that infuses contemporary dance with traditional moves. Students will enjoy a mixture of African and American social and street dances. Afro-Fusion is designed to strengthen the student’s ability to adopt a range of styles and get an understanding of how these movements are connected. Get ready to sweat, workout and enjoy the sounds of Popular African music.
