Tomislav's class delves deeply into the fundamentals of the Graham technique, emphasizing the principles of contraction, release, spiral, breath utilization, and Graham's unique musicality. Through detailed exploration of floorwork and standing exercises, dancers enhance their understanding of alignment, articulation, and core engagement, while developing strength and flexibility. Tomislav aims to foster a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages you to challenge yourself and leave class with a sense of accomplishment.
The Graham technique centers on "contraction and release," emphasizing core-driven movement intertwined with breath. It utilizes opposition in various body parts to create spirals for dramatic effect. Beginning with foundational floorwork focusing on breath and core control with spiraling movements, the class progresses to standing exercises emphasizing spinal alignment and articulation. Combinations in the center and across the floor integrate core elements for a cohesive dance experience. Designed for students with prior Graham technique knowledge, the class aims to build and deepen their understanding of inevitable movement and artistry. Tomislav guides dancers in exploring how nuanced movement and breath can enrich character and storytelling within the technique, fostering experimentation and ensuring an enjoyable learning environment.
