Teacher Bio
Sissa Strain (she/her) is a commercial theatre creative based in NYC. Originally from southern Louisiana, she trained from a young age in many styles of dance, theatre, acrobatics, and circus arts. She furthered her training at Indiana University and The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Dance and Kinesiology.

Performing has afforded Sissa the opportunity to travel the world. Some of her favorite credits include: In The Heights feature film, Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Disney’s The Little Mermaid at Syracuse Stage, Guys & Dolls at The Fireside Theatre, Elf the Musical at The Argyle Theatre, Pilobolus, Porsche Shanghai, MGM, RWS, Choice Hotels, Southwest Airlines, FX's American Horror Story: Freakshow, AMC's Roots, and HBO's The Righteous Gemstones! She is the Director of Operations for the Commercial Dance Intensive, on faculty at Broadway Dance Center, a 10 year + member of Dance Masters of America, a founding member of the Choreographers Guild, and a member of Actors’ Equity Association.

This all levels class is structured with a full body warm-up, center combinations, and progressions across the floor. Students will work on foundational jazz technique, musicality, and dynamic movement with a focus on alignment, isolation, and stylization. Throughout class, skills are presented in a progressive format so that students may work at their individual level while building strength, coordination, and performance quality. Both traditional and contemporary jazz styles are explored, including turns, leaps, and traveling sequences, making this a great way to touch base on technique for both auditions and performance.
This all levels class is designed to help dancers develop technique and performance presence in heels for stage and screen while utilizing camerawork as a learning tool. Starting from a barefoot warm-up, dancers move through a foundational center, across-the-floor combinations, and freestyle on-camera exercises designed to bring out clarity of movement, confidence, and individual artistry. Both commercial and theatrical heels are welcome.
This all levels class is structured with a full body warm up, center exercises, and passes across the mat. Students will work on balancing skills, limbering, and power tumbling preparation with a focus on strength, flexibility, and dexterity. Throughout class skills are presented in a progressive format emphasizing functional technique so that students may work at their own pace and level. Sissa Strain is certified by test to teach acrobatics and tumbling through Dance Masters of America.
