Julie "JJ" Joseph (she/they) is a graduate of Brandeis University '18 with a BA in psychology and Hispanic Studies. After graduating, she went on to train in Boston, NYC and LA in various disciplines. Her training comes from incredible educators, including: Cat Cogliandro, Hayden J Frederick, Robert Taylor Jr., Neil Schwartz, Dre Torres, Shea Sullivan, Adrienne Hawkins, Justin Boccitto, Jared Grimes, Derick K. Grant, and more. Previously, she has danced with Boston Community Dance Project (BCDP GLOBAL), a commercial contemporary fusion company under the direction of Sarah-Kay "SkooJ Core-O", DrumatiX, a drumming and tap dancing company under Noa Barankin, and N.E.A.T., a tap company under the direction of Mike Camire. She was also a member of LUME Collective, a LA based commercially minded collective under the co- direction of MaryAnn Chavez and Monika Felice Smith. Her performance credits include incredible spaces like the Jazz at Lincoln Center (NYC), Symphony Space NYC, and Carnival Choreographer's Ball, in both LA and NYC.
For the past few years, she has worked as a movement director for Model X: Inclusive Fashion, a New York Fashion Week show. She was able to debut her movement direction in Sayaka's music video, Bite My Tongue. Her production credits continue to grow, working in film and direction. She has had the honor of working with artists such as Iphis Well, Khai and the Mannequins, Bibz, Izye, and more, to film and direct various music videos and branding content for their music.
You can now find JJ living bi-coastally between the east and west coast. She currently is still performing, in addition to teaching, choreographing, filming, and directing. She absolutely adores teaching the next generation, especially in Tap, Rhythm Work and history, Contemporary movement, and Dance on Camera.

Class will begin with a warm-up to help us find the floor and align our movement to create sound. As we warm up, we'll talk about history and technique. Class will then invite dancers to participate in technical exercises and improvisation, followed by a combination. The class environment seeks to be a safe space for dancers of any experience to find their way to their feet and explore their sound.
We will start with a warm-up to center our minds and bodies within the space. Then we will invite some structured improvisation into the space through various tasks based on music theory, textures, etc. Class will then shift to learning a combination, where the intention is always to play, stretch, and communicate through movement, using the combo as a grounding point.
Percussive Contemporary is a class born from both tap dancing and commercial contemporary work. Class will include a thorough warm up, a music theory based improvisation exercise, and a contemporary combination that relies heavily on tap based footwork. The class seeks to be a comfortable space to branch out- reaching past both movement and music to provide a unique challenge to movers of all levels. Class is designed to be a safe exploratory zone, no prior tap or contemporary experience required. Sneakers are encouraged, barefeet welcomed.
