Tabatha Robinson-Scott holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree in dance and Master’s degree in Dance Education from Temple University. For over 20 years, she has built her career as a teacher, choreographer, performer, curriculum specialist, and arts advocate. She is a Professional certified teacher in the Umfundalai technique and travels the country as a master teacher, competition judge, and guest artist. Tabatha has danced professionally with Kariamu & Company, the Seventh Principle Dance Company, before starting her own professional company, The Monarch Dance Company for over 20 years.  Her work is versed in the African diaspora, heavily influenced by contemporary themes and social justice.  Tabatha’s choreography has been presented throughout the country as well as the 2012 Olympics in London. She is a published author and is currently in the final stages of completing her Doctorate of Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Cultural Equity.  She currently resides in San Francisco, and is the chair of the Performing Arts Department at an independent school.

Class Descriptions

Umfundalai is a contemporary African dance technique that comprises its movement vocabulary from dance traditions throughout the Diaspora.  The class introduces the fundamentals of the Umfundalai technique including progressions of specific traditional dances accessible to all levels.  Class begins with movement practice warm-up in African dance foundations and organically evolves into choreography.
