Shany Dagan is an Israeli-American performer & choreographer, working in NYC, California and Israel. She moved to New York in 2012, right after serving 3 years in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
A graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, Shany is a Broadway Dance Center -Professional Semester Alumni and a trained aerialist from the Warehouse Circus Intensive Program.
Among others Shany performed in The Little Mermaid (Fireside Theatre), Christmas Wonderland National Tour and Le Grand Cirque (Dublin Productions), RWS & Holland America Cruise Line, Israel's Dancing With The Stars, and NBC shows. Working with various artists across the US and Israel.
She is a Board member of the SpectorDance company. Since joining in 2019, Shany has worked under the direction of Fran Spector Atkins, performing for causes such as Sustainability & Climate Change (Ocean Trilogy; Wildfires), Gang violence (East West), and others.
As a choreographer Shany has found inspiration from her background as a Modern dancer, as well as her professional fitness experience of 12 years. Converging to a rare combination of athleticism and grace, also drawn from her gymnastics background.
Her work is targeted to raising awareness, leveraging research to a moral expression. Shany is fascinated by shapes and emotions that can be created by motion. Looking for new ways to utilize the power of apprehension that we possess as artists.
Shany's choreography work has been presented in many of NYC's world class venues. She presented her work in Israel's yearly Karmiel Dance Festival, where dozens of international companies compete and share their unique choreographies. Shany also presented her work at SpectorDance's – "Dance that Makes a difference" in Monterey, CA.
Shany advocates the power of research and its ability to empower the dance with new perspectives and unique interpretation. She encourage the student to look for movement within the body and finding a connection between the physical-self and the space around them.
Class is where we break all boundaries! Fall, rise and rebuild.
"Dance. Laugh. Love." Is her approach to life.
