Class Descriptions

Contemporary

Contemporary dance styles are built on the cohesive foundation of grounded modern training and structured ballet technique. Combining these concepts, Barry helps his students realize their full potential and range as a dancer.
Class begins with an aerobic warmup that prepares dancers to move with fluidity, flexibility, and strength. Following this warmup, you’ll be lead through exercises to improve basic and advanced techniques; including center work, floor work, progressions across the floor, and more.

Each class finishes with original choreography, where emphasis is placed on learning a range of movement styles, retention of material, and cultivating performance skills.

Ballet

With a background that includes dancing with Pacific Northwest Ballet, Houston Ballet, the School of American Ballet, and the Kirov Academy of Ballet, Barry’s classes offer a vast perspective on the many ways a dancer can be trained.

Building strength of technique and port de bras through Vaganova-based exercises, exploring musicality and speed through Balanchine-based combinations, and engaging students in conversation about the differences between this range of techniques, Barry creates a unique experience to build the most versatile dancer from the ground up.
